The IRIS LAB Synthetic Biology Laboratory is a unique technological innovation space in Navarre, equipped with state‑of‑the‑art technology for the design, fabrication and characterization of biomolecules, microorganisms and advanced biological systems.
It is part of the IRIS Navarra Digital Innovation Hub ecosystem, and is designed as an open, shared and flexible laboratory to drive the development of synthetic biology, biotechnology and bioengineering in Navarre.
This laboratory enables a complete synthetic biology workflow, from sequencing and genetic manipulation to recombinant protein production, cell culture, metabolite analysis and biomolecule purification.
It is oriented towards applications in fields such as health, agri‑food, sustainable energy and the environment, among others.
DNA SCRIPT SYNTAX: enzymatic synthesis of DNA oligonucleotides.
FPLC ÄKTA Avant 25 and ÄKTA Flux S: biomolecule purification.
Biacore 1K: molecular interaction analysis.

What advantages does it offer
The laboratory provides access to highly specialised equipment and cutting‑edge techniques, many of which are unique in Navarre.
The model is open and flexible: companies can contract tailored services, access the equipment in self‑service mode if they have the required training, or collaborate on R&D&I projects with the IRIS ecosystem.
In addition, the laboratory has qualified technical personnel who provide expert guidance.
Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food and energy companies.
Startups and spin‑offs.
Research centres and universities.
SINAI technology centres.
Public administration.
Professionals and entrepreneurs working in the field of biotechnology.
Access to the laboratory is organised into three modes:
Turnkey service: IRIS LAB carries out the entire process from the sample to the final product or result.
Self‑service: for trained users who can directly operate certain equipment under reservation.
Collaborative projects: in consortium with IRIS LAB or its managing entities.
Shared access to laboratory spaces and a full catalogue of specialised services is also available.
The cost depends on the type of project, the access mode and the equipment involved. The following options are offered:
Service‑based or per‑sample rates.
Time‑based rental for self‑service users.
Special pricing based on user profile (SMEs, public centres, etc.).

The professionals at Nasertic, with support from the manufacturers of the installed equipment, carry out regular inspections and maintenance tasks—both preventive and corrective—to detect and resolve any minor faults that may arise.
The person receiving the material is responsible for any issue or damage to the equipment. They must therefore report it as soon as possible and assume any potential repair costs.
Yes. Given the level of specialisation of the equipment, the following is required:
Specific training or prior accreditation for self‑service use.
Qualified in‑house personnel for the use of certain equipment.
Mandatory basic training in biosafety and good laboratory practices.
